I am a community marketing manager in the video game industry by trade. I spend most of my day writing content, answering questions and sorting out the best way to present and support our game. It's a great job, but at the end of the day it's hard to quantify exactly what it is that I accomplished. Saying 'I wrote 20 emails' or 'I responded to X comments', while valid, doesn't really feel quite the same as being able to point to something and say 'That! I made that!'.
Hence, I make jewelry and other odd little projects when I go home to fulfill the more concrete, tangible desire to create and build. It's a great little balance!
